So, what exactly happens during a cake smash photoshoot? Well, it's as straightforward as it sounds! We hand your precious baby a delectable birthday cake and let them unleash their curiosity and, of course, their messy side! Don't worry about the aftermath—I'll take care of the cleanup. And for those babies who prefer a less messy approach, I have spoons on hand to help with the cake-smashing process.
Now, you may be wondering, why opt for a cake smash session instead of a traditional portrait shoot? Let me tell you, capturing the perfect shot of a one-year-old can be quite a challenge. They're constantly on the move, and getting them to look at the camera, smile, and strike a pose can be quite the task, both for you as a parent and for the little one. With this option, we combine the cake smash and splash sessions, along with an additional 15-20 minutes dedicated to capturing beautiful portrait-style photos. When it comes to backgrounds, I believe in complete personalization. Before your shoot, we'll discuss your preferred colours and themes, ensuring a harmonious blend with your chosen cake and outfit. You have the freedom to select from my past setups or even propose entirely new and exciting ideas—I'm always open to creativity and collaboration.
Now, let's talk about cakes and outfits. It's important to keep in mind that the cake is destined to be smashed, squished into little fingers and toes, and devoured with gusto. So, there's no need to splurge on an expensive cake. Supermarkets offer lovely options at reasonable prices, and you can add your personal touch with cake toppers, numbers, or decorations.
As for outfits, the choice is entirely yours! I've photographed little ones in traditional shorts and tutu combinations, stunning dresses, as well as smart shorts, shirts, and bow ties. You can let their individual style shine! The portrait session can feature either the cake smash outfit or their most dapper party clothes or even something casual—it's completely up to you.
Lastly, I want to emphasise that this is your photoshoot, and the possibilities are endless. We can incorporate parents, siblings, and even grandparents into the session. I've had siblings join in on the cake smashing and even parents getting messy and having a blast!
